Today I don't feel like doing anything...

Feeling very lazy and this kind of dressing reflects exactly how I feel. Lose couldn't care less hair, barely there make-up, slouchy clothes, loose jeans, ripped mini shorts, careless layering, natural fabrics and a classic striped top. Second pic shows Audrey Tautou in 'Coco Before Chanel', a lovely film that until I watched it, I hadn't realised it was all in French. Unusual, but it really added something. Third pic I think is Sienna Miller who looks so casual and carefree. Love the hair in the last pic. So whatever. Wish my hair could look that good.

Pop of Colour

Colour is everywhere right now. You just need to walk into Zara and colour slaps you in the face from every direction. I like it though. A little injection here and there adds a nice suprise and instantly boots your mood.

PS. Here's a pair of Topshop mary janes that I've kind of fallen for. Yes they are silver and sparkly and scream when the hell would I wear them, but who cares? J'adore! Although, price wise, I think I'll wait 'till they're on sale ;)

You know it's something when your heart beats faster

As you can probably tell from the overload of pictures, I am in love with Rene Gruau's work. Ever since my aunt gave me a Birthday card with a sketch of his on the front, I have fallen head over Louboutin heels in love. I love his simplicity. By manipulating line both in expression and width he creates stunning and striking pieces. His use of colour is equally effective and works beautifully against his bold use of black.

Sadly, nowadays fashion illustration is fading. Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator have replaced this beautiful form of art. OK, digital art is fab, but sketches are just...special. Vogue rarely boats a single sketch, however in Gruau's day, magazines were filled with works like his. As were ad campaigns, a lot of which Gruau contributed to - particularly Dior. Although, I have a feeling fashion illustration will return. With modern artists like Garance Dore [ www.garancedore.fr/en ], I'm sure it will.

If it doesn't, then there are always reference books. I've decided from now on my money will be spent on these kind of books (Fashion Drawings In Vogue, Masters of Fashion Illustration, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, Alexander McQueen: Genius of A Generation are just a few on my wish list). I was given the Big Book of Fashion Illustration by a very thoughtful friend and would highly recommend it to anyone in need of inspiration. I borrowed two books from a friend on fashion illustration today, so I've already found new work to love. No matter how many other illustrations I find though, Rene Gruau will always be a firm favourite.

Philippa Bywater

Now how gorgeous is she? Cheekbones, beauty spot, pixie like features. She's got it hasn't she? I couldn't remember her name and had dug these photos up from ages ago. Irritatingly, I'd saved them all as PB, but not her actual name. Argh! So frustrating, but thankfully I consulted my notebook and found the name.

Anyway she is a British model who is quite low key, so far having only appeared on the covers of Grazia and Time Out. However, with her quirky features I'm pretty sure we'll eventually be seeing more of her. She's kind of '60s isn't she? Especially in the shift block pink dress (last pic). I think she looks a bit like a modern day Twiggy, and how perfect does she look in cat eye sunnies (pic 2)? We should call up Tom Ford and demand she model all his new sunglasses.

I really want to curl up and read my book wearing an Isabel Marant sweater

So right now I'm half in love with Isabel Marant's collection. The first three pics are this season along with a couple of others, but I've also included some from 2010. I'm not sure what I've fallen for...Is it the slouchy ease that allows the sweater to sit on the body? The tomboyish layering? The too cute to be true pastel pink shorts with a do up knot? The pirate style boots? The worn in belts looped over their body? The kitten heels (pic 4) with the insane ankle strap which should be wrong but are so right? Je ne sais pas. It's just nailed everything and is the mood I'm in.

Plus it helps that my current model of the moment Freja Beha Erichsen (pic 6 and last) and Gisele (first pic) make the stuff look so effortlessly wearable. And who would have thought nobbly, bobbled sweater's could be cool? Well, they are now.

Hello old friend

I think my blog has suffered from severe neglaction, something a certain friend has constantly reminded me about (merci ma meillure amie - I probably didn't speak that in nearly as good French as you). I blame exams, although I don't think they quite cover all the way back to last September....

Anyways. I am posting again and considering I watched 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' last night, I think this image is quite a fitting return to blogging. Love the movie, but the fashion...J'adore ca! This movie showcases the sheer class of the Little Black Dress and of course that time period.
